History
At Greenfields, all children will understand a range of historical events across different time periods, understand where in time and context historical events have happened, use a range of different sources to expand their historical enquiry and have access to a broad range of trips aimed at enriching their historical learning.
Our Curriculum
Our history learning is provided in chronological order and includes both British and worldwide history. We have adopted an enquiry based approach to our historical learning, with each topic having key enquiries for children to explore to show their knowledge. We intertwine both substantive knowledge (what we know about the past) and disciplinary knowledge (how we know about the past) throughout the history curriculum. The substantive concepts that run throughout historical learning in all key stages are:
- Invasion and Empire
- Settlements and Social History
- Crime and Punishment
- Communication and Invention
The disciplinary concepts that help us to explore these substantive concepts and how we know about events in history are:
- Chronology
- Cause and Consequence
- Change and Continuity
- Similarities and Differences
- Evidence/Sources
- Historical Significance
