2024/25

Term 4

We start this term looking at 'The Jolly Postman', exploring local geography, followed by 'How to Catch a Star' looking into D.T. and then 'My Hair' looking at PSHE. After that, we will look at the book, 'The King's Pants' and 'The Queen's Knickers' for history, ending this term with 'The Easter Story' and R.E. In Maths we will be looking at building 9 and 10 and then exploring 3D shapes. In phonics, we will be starting Chapter Three, moving through sets one, two and three, learning a range of digraphs to support our reading and writing. 

The Jolly Postman - Geography

Term 3

We will start this term by looking at 'The Colour Monster', starting off with PSHE learning about feelings before looking at art and finger painting. We then move on to the book 'Fish', looking at materials and the environment. After that, we will look at computing and 'Giraffe's Can't Dance' before moving on to more PSHE with the book 'Pink is for Boys', looking at aspirations for the future. In phonics, we will start with another assessment week, followed by a week of consolidation. We will then move on to double letter graphemes, alphabetical order and vowels and consonants to finish off chapter two of Phonics Shed. In maths, we will look at numbers to five, mass and capacity, the numbers 6, 7, 8 and length, height and time. 

Pink is for Boys - PSHE

Length and Height

We explored length and height in our adult-directed time, building towers and comparing our heights with one another.
       
        

Giraffes Can't Dance - Computing

We learnt how to use iPads to create a range of scenes from the book, 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. 

              

Fish - Science

We looked at a range of materials, testing if they were magnetic or if they floated or sank. We then sorted objects into the materials they were made from. 

            

Amazing Child-Initiated Learning

We have loved exploring our environment this term.

                  

Hastings Aquarium

We had an amazing time at Hastings Aquarium, learning all about different types of fish.  

                              

The Colour Monster - PSHE and Art

We also did lots of Child Initiated activities linked to the Colour Monster.

Amazing Maths Learning

We have spent lots of time looking at the composition of number.

                  

           

    

Colour Jars

We began this term looking at the Colour Monster, making jars to match each of the emotions and their colours. 

                             

Term 2

This term, we will start our learning by looking at 'The Best Diwali Ever' focussing on the festival of Diwali and RE. Next, we will move on to look at 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' with a focus on Computing and Geography before looking at Music through 'The Good Little Wolf'. Lastly, we will be spending two weeks on 'The Christmas Story' to look at the meaning behind the reason some people celebrate Christmas. In phonics, we start the term with an assessment week before recapping the sounds we need a little more help on. We will then move on to Chapter 2 sets 5-7 before another recap week at the end of term. In Maths, we will look at circles and triangles, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and four-sided shapes. 

Father Christmas visits Apple Trees

Apples were so excited when Father Christmas came to visit. He told us stories about his magic key and we sang 'When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney' to him. 

      

The Christmas Story

To support our learning on 'The Christmas Story', we did a range of Christmas crafts including making Christmas cards and even a Nativity scene from junk modelling. 

         

    

    

                        

St. Martin's Church

To support our learning on The Christmas Story, we went for tea and toast at St. Martin's Church. It was delicious! 

                                   

Christmas Campfire

We had the best time at the Christmas Campfire, eating biscuits and singing Christmas Songs.

                               

Four-Sided Shapes

We loved exploring different four-sided shapes, discussing what makes a four-sided shape a square or a rectangle. 

            

The Good Little Wolf - Music

We had an amazing time learning how to play the glockenspiels in time with a range of nursery rhymes. 

We're Going on a Bear Hunt - Geography and Computing

We used maps from the Bear Hunt story to help our positional language learning in Maths. 

            

We used Matata lab to support our learning on computing.

The Best Diwali Ever! - RE

We acted out the story of Rama and Sita and made Firework artwork using paint. 

            

Term 1 

This term, we will be welcoming a brand-new cohort of Apples to school life at Greenfields. We will start by looking at the poem 'Each Peach, Pear Plum' to help the children settle and support those who came from our nursery rooms. We will then move on to the book 'One Family', focussing on Art and History, before moving on to PSHE and the book 'Meesha Makes Friends'. We will then be looking at the book 'Let's Celebrate Navratri' before moving on to 'Funny Bones', focussing on PSHE and Science. We end term one by looking at the book 'The Best Pumpkin Soup' with a focus on DT. We will begin phonics in week two of term, recapping Chapter 1 of Phonics Shed before learning sets 1-4 of Chapter 2. In week three, we begin our maths coverage with two weeks on matching and comparing, two weeks on pattern and measure and two weeks introducing 1, 2 and 3. Our P.E focus for the term will be invasion games with Mr Brooks. 

Pumpkin Soup - DT

We had an amazing time at Pumpkin Moon selecting pumpkins to support our learning on Pumpkin Soup. 

                                  

Funny Bones - PSHE and Science

We spent two weeks looking at 'Funny Bones' by Janet and Allen Ahlberg. The first week was based on PSHE. We looked at ways to keep ourselves healthy including brushing our teeth, washing our hands and getting enough sleep. 

                                                  

We also looked at the PANTS rule and how to keep our bodies safe and then created different pants to share our understanding.

One Family - Art

We began this book, focussing on drawing skills in art. We created a range of self-portraits using different materials.

Each Peach, Pear, Plum

Our First P.E. Lesson

We had the most amazing time at our first P.E. lesson in the hall.

              

     

Peach, Pear and Plum Kebabs

We made some delicious kebabs from peaches, pears and plums, trying to add the fruits in a repeating pattern. The fruit felt a bit slimy but tasted good. 

                          

The story of 'Each Peach, Pear, Plum' helped us settle into school, remembering our time in our respective nurseries. We spent lots of time exploring the environment, learning how to sit on the carpet during adult-led sessions and how to tidy away our resources.
