PINS parent carer forum

What is PINS?

Partnership for Inclusion and Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) was a pilot project headed up by KCC and NHS Kent which Greenfields chose to be a part of.  As a result of this programme, staff have had access to a package of training with the aim of improving staff's knowledge of neurodiversity and how to support neurodivergent children.  One of our aims of this project was to build closer and stronger relationships with parents of neurodivergent children by creating a safe space for parents to discuss challenges faced both in school and at home, share information with each other, as well as to discuss topics around neurodiversity and give each other support over a hot drink and biscuits.  We have worked closely with Kent PACT and have now developed a PINS parent carer forum which will meet at least once a term.

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity and Mental Health: ADHD | Skyland Trail

Neurodiversity is a term that acknowledges that everyone's brains work differently.  It is a group term that could include people who are Autistic, have ADHD, OCD, dyslexia or any other learning difference. A person who is neurodivergent may need reasonable adjustments made so that they can access things around them or learn effectively.

Parent Carer Forum Group rules

During initial meetings, parents that were able to attend established some group rules.  We ask everyone who would like to attend the meetings to read through and adhere to these rules.

  • Have tea/coffee and biscuits
  • Everyone gets to speak (if they would like to)
  • Try to avoid side conversations during discussions
  • Have a school representative at every meeting
  • Actively welcome other parents
  • Be positive and solution focussed
  • Remind people that we are in a safe space to discuss challenges and views
  • Minutes to be shared after each meeting

Our next meeting

The next PINS Parent Carer forum meeting will be on Thursday 8th May at 9am. If you are unable to attend, please check the website after the meeting for minutes of what was discussed and any updates that arose.

A form will be published here closer to the time to vote on the topic for discussion.
