Term 1

In Learning Experience this term, we will be learning about the ancient Maya in history, Natural Disasters in geography, HTML in computing and Money in PSHE. In English, we will be reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and will be focusing on Writing to Inform. In maths, we will be covering place value, addition and subtraction. PE this term will be swimming and rugby. Check our class page to keep up-to-date with what we are covering.

Natural Disasters

During this Learning Experience, we will be learning about natural disasters. We will begin by looking at the Earth's layers and tectonic plates. We will explore how shifts within the tectonic plates cause earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes. We will then have time through the Learning Experience to ask questions and discover more about the specific areas of natural disasters that Elm Trees children find interesting and want to find out more about.

Maya

During this Learning Experience, we will be learning about the Mayan empire. We will begin by looking at who the Maya were and where they lived. We will be comparing the Maya timeline with events from British history. We will explore how they settled, what they believed, how they lived and how they were governed. Finally, we will investigate the decline of Maya cities. At the end of the Learning Experience, we will invite parents in to experience some of our learning.

Thank you to all of the family members who came to our Maya Workshop!

Elm Trees had an exploratory discussion about what caused the decline of the Maya civilisation

Well done to our new House Captains!
